EXCITING NEWS!!!!

CURE CHILDHOOD CANCER LICENCE PLATES APPROVED

We have been campaigning for over two years to Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) to get specialty plates in the province for childhood cancer. Initially rejected in 2018, the campaign has been reborn through a recent push in social media through the childhood cancer community and also several local news outlets.

On February 8 we had a call with MPI regarding the Childhood Cancer licence plates. They informed us that they are APPROVING our submission for Childhood Cancer Awareness plates. We are completely shocked they changed their minds but thrilled they did!

Manitoba will be the only province in Canada with specialty plates for childhood cancer!

Why are these plates important for us and other childhood cancer families? It represents our children’s fight. It represents support and hope. It promotes awareness. But mostly, it honours our children fighting or who have fought.

Thank you to all the parents and families for sending in emails of their families story to the MPI representative. Thank you for everyones support in this drive. We will keep you posted on the process as it unfolds.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month and on October 16, 2016, Manitoba passed Bill 209, The Childhood Cancer Awareness Month Act to recognize this month and all the children who lost their battle, all those that are currently battling and all future warriors.

Madox’s Warriors along with other families were present at the Legislative Building to speak for Bill 209. The  Bill was passed, but since that day there has not been much done in the province to support this Bill.

So we at Madox’s Warriors have planned a morning awareness campaign outside of the legislative building at Memorial Field in Winnipeg. We will be placing 1000 flags to represent all children fighting all cancers on the memorial field grounds, along with some photos of children who have battled or are battling cancer.

Why August 31? We want to kickoff September with a bang and get some exposure to this important month.

Yes children get cancer. Yes children will die from cancer. September is a month we all should recognize.

Thank You Lehigh!

We want to thank all the wonderful people at Lehigh Hanson on Ferrier Rd in Winnipeg for contributing all of the funds they raised at their 2016 Christmas party!

They are one of our biggest and strongest supporters and have been behind our fight since our start. They continue to surprise us!

The office have become such strong supporters of Madox’s Warriors. We are grateful for their continued support and look forward to working with them the future!

BILL 209 PASSED

Today at the Manitoba Legislative Building, we witnessed the passing of Bill 209.

MANY local cancer families were in attendance and applauded the passing of Bill 209 — The Childhood Cancer Awareness Month Act in Manitoba.

Marking September as a golden month now in Manitoba!

Our children are important, and it fills my heart to know we are now supported by our own government.

Thank you to Dana Wood, who has been speaking to her MLA in Lac du Bonnet regarding this idea. Dana still fights for children and families battling cancer, even with a broken heart. Her beautiful daughter Darah fought valiantly against Ewing’s Sarcoma, but died in 2013. Childhood cancer is NOT rare!

Thank you to MLA Wayne Ewasko of Lac du Bonnet for listening to Dana’s story and moving forward to ensuring this bill was not only heard but passed.

You can see Wayne on the far right. And I (Suzanne) am, obviously, standing tall behind Madox’s photo. [apologies voir the poor photo quality]
